If a recent LinkedIn poll is any indication, managing high drug costs associated with cancer care continues to be a major concern for payers and providers alike.

When asked – What do you think is the most important factor for enhancing oncology care today? – 35 percent of the respondents chose managing high drug costs. Another 32 percent said supporting value-based care was the most important factor, while 16 percent said growing remote patient support and advancing health equity respectively.

The poll was conducted by NantHealth on LinkedIn.

It should come as no surprise that drug prices remain a top priority.

With direct cancer-related healthcare spending in the U.S. projected to be around $246 billion by 20301 and more than 1,300 treatments and vaccines for cancer currently in development2, managing the cost of cancer care can challenge even the most adroit healthcare professionals.

Leveraging Advanced Technology for Cancer Care

What’s one solution? Leveraging advanced technology to decipher treatment options, such as what NantHealth’s Eviti Connect provides. By enabling providers to compare thousands of evidence-based, nationally endorsed treatment options and clinical trials intelligently and automatically, while also empowering payers to validate and approve treatment regimens more quickly via shared and trusted evidence-based resources Eviti Connect provides a powerful platform to help make the best clinical decisions possible at the best cost.

Evidence-based Medical Library

Another important component of the platform is NantHealth’s evidence-based medical library, which houses more than 4,800+ evidence-based cancer treatments options and 9,500+ verified clinical trials and is managed by a team of oncology specialists. This team of board-certified oncologists, oncology-certified nurses and nurse practitioners, and clinical informatics professionals focuses on maintaining treatment data to help inform cancer care decisions.

Implementing Value-based Care

Healthcare professionals continue to look for ways to implement value-based care, which provides incentives for improving outcomes and saving money. One way to achieve this goal is to apply a sophisticated evidence-based decision support and treatment validation platform like Eviti Connect so providers and payers can rapidly evaluate treatments and protocols and quickly deliver effective, cost-effective treatment at the point of care.

The stakes are high with respect to cancer care. Despite cancer mortality rates dropping by a third since 1991, the disease is still the second leading cause of death in the U.S., exceeded only by heart disease.
