Los Angeles, Calif. – January 16, 2015 — NantHealth, the transformational healthcare cloud-based IT company renowned for measurable progress in converging science and technology through a single integrated clinical platform, today announced the appointment of Gary Palmer, M.D., J.D., MBA, MPH, to the newly created position of chief medical officer (CMO), effective immediately.

“Gary brings to the role of CMO myriad of perspectives and experiences, gained as an executive, academic and practicing oncologist,” said Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, chairman and chief executive officer of NantHealth.  “He has held senior level positions in drug development, medical affairs and public health, for a number of highly regarded organizations in the broad healthcare field.  Gary’s successful track record will benefit NantHealth as we continue to advance our initiatives currently underway and evaluate others.”

Palmer previously served as senior vice president, Medical Affairs, at Foundation Medicine, where he helped launch the FoundationOne assay. Before that, he was chief medical officer of On-Q-ity, a circulating tumor cell company. Earlier, he was vice president of medical affairs at Genomic Health, Inc., where he was instrumental in the commercialization of the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay.  Palmer held leadership positions at Kosan Biosciences, Salmedix and Amgen, where he was involved in the clinical development and commercialization of Neupogen, Neulasta and Aranesp.

Prior to joining industry, Palmer served as director of the Medical Breast Service at the University of California Davis Cancer Center and chief of medical oncology at Mercy Health System, Sacramento.  He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Yale University and a medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine.  He completed his oncology training at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Palmer also holds a master of business administration degree from the University of California, Davis, a master of public health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a juris doctorate degree from Concord University.  He is a licensed physician and a member of the State Bar of California.
